I am commonly asked about vacation destinations other than Mexico. It seems that most people tend to ‘try out’ Mexico as one of their first all inclusive vacation spots, whether it is Cancun, Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, or Ixtapa. They even return a few more times because they love it there; however, then I start getting the calls about looking for a great next trip for them… somewhere ‘different,’ and ‘not Mexico.’ My first suggestion is always Jamaica. For me, Jamaica is such a special place. It has great beaches, clear blue water, nice sand, and gorgeous lush green hillsides as your backdrop. There are even a few different destinations to consider here. Montego Bay is closest to the airport or you can venture farther out to Ocho Rios – it is gorgeous here. For those looking for a quieter vacation or honeymoon, Negril is a great option as it is a more low key, relaxed area and of course has the famous 7 Mile Beach, which is a must see. If you are wondering what there is to see and do while in Jamaica, there are lots of options. A must see is Dunns River Falls where you get to climb the powerful waterfall. Another popular option is touring the Appleton Rum Estate – yum!
WHERE TO STAY:
This resort is located only 15 minutes from the airport and even has their own concierge lounge at the airport that has refreshments and even allows for a quicker line through customs – always a plus! The Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall is a stunning family friendly property that offers gourmet food, great service, unlimited a la carte dining, and top shelf liquor. There really is nothing to dislike about this property!
This couples only property is located in Ocho Rios and has recently undergone a huge renovation. They have amazing pools here, 16 restaurants, and even a butler village if you wish to enjoy the luxuries of a personal butler (and you should, you deserve it!). Sandals has a lot of inclusions that make your vacation experience even better. They include golf, scuba diving, motorized water sports, land sports, high end entertainment, gourmet food, and top shelf liquor. If you have not been to a Sandals resort yet, you need to! The luxury and service here is truly amazing.
If you are looking for a new destination to explore and have not yet been to Jamaica, now is the time to consider it. And for those of you who have been before, isn’t it time you return? I know I will be heading there soon! There are great prices available for this winter – don’t wait until the resorts are sold out.
